Culture in brief: ‘Divergent Evolution’ at Studio Montclair
"Divergent Phylogeny," an exhibition featuring 23 artists from around the Concerted States, is connected though at Studio Montclair Gallery, 127 Bloomfield Ave., through April 10. Each work was chosen to show common threads and preoccupations within the works of individual artists, writes SMI.
Studio Montclair writes in a release, "The exhibit not merely demonstrates an extraordinary vagabon of materials, styles, and subject matter, only also offers the scheme of observing common duds and preoccupations within the works of soul artists. Says Curator Emma Wilcox about the exhibit, "As an artist and culture worker so much of the dialogue I am part of revolves around where the attributes of a given graphics come from; the connection of that piece to the other works in a series an creative person is creating; antecedents in prior antecedents in prior works or series; the influences of other artists. I honey this openhearted of talk; we all sleep with completely the time, in public OR privately. Divergent Organic evolution is an chance to share some of that talk."
